Bertha Vickers is 100 years old and still getting in the woods to hunt and fish! She recently went into a shooting house with a neighbor to go deer hunting. The first hunt had a deer that was scared off by a dog, but that did not stop her. the next day everything worked out right and with a .243 Winchester rifle she shot a doe. Her thoughts on the hunt are very interesting.
“I was sort of shaking until I got ready to shoot. I didn’t think it was all going to go right.”
“I don’t know why everybody is making such a big deal about it,” Vickers said. “If I’d killed a big buck I could see it, but it was just a doe.”
“Just to get to go and the thrill of catching or killing something is so exciting,” Vickers said.
“I’m going to do just what I want to do,” said Vickers. “I’m going to fish more than I did last year.
“I would love to kill a buck. I can’t hunt in this cold, but it will warm up.”
Two years ago I sat in a tree stand with my grandma and recorded her shooting a nice 4pt. As it went viral across Facebook it was interesting to see her reaction. She didn’t care at all! She only cared how excited the rest of the family was. These country girls don’t realize how awesome they really are.
