98-year-old hunter shoots Rare Melanistic buck

Each year hunters harvest piebald or albino deer and we discuss how beautiful and rare these deer are. significantly less deer are harvested that are black or melanistic.

Melanistic whitetails are no different than any other except the color of their coat. They form this color due to a random genetic anomaly. Most melanistic deer are black across their entire body with the exception of the hair around their mouth and under their tail.

Joshua Stewart posted a picture of his 98-year-old grandpa that took a melanistic buck in Mississippi. The post praises his grandpa on a 125-yard hart shot that you can read below.

My granddaddy’s buck taken in Mississippi this past weekend. It only took him 98 years to find a 1\60,000 buck. Not a crazy long shot at 125 yards but dead through the heart. The old man has still got it.
