Actor Alec Baldwin shoots and kills crew member on movie set

Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun, killing a crew member while filming the western movie “Rust” in New Mexico on Thursday that killed a crew member, according to law enforcement.

According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the director of photography¬†Halyna Hutchins, 42, was transported to the hospital via helicopter and pronounced dead by medical personnel at the University of New Mexico Hospital. Director Joel Souza, 48, was transported to Christus St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center by ambulance for care. Details on his condition were not released.

“According to investigators, it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged,” the statement said. “Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”

This is not the first time a crew member has been killed with a prop gun while filming a movie. Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, was tragically killed while filming the movie Crow in 1993.
