A bullfrog defiantly bit off more than he could chew when he decided that what looks like an American Coot was going to be his dinner. (I could be wrong about the type of bird, let us know if you think it is something else)
The coot was discovered floating in the water by Kyle Hardy who was able to film himself rescuing the bird. This is by far one of the strangest wildlife encounters I have ever seen. You have to wonder what was going through that frog’s mind to think he could eat a bird five times his size.
I imagine that both the frog and the bird would have died if it was not for Kyle. The frog had a pretty good hold on him and it did not look like he was going to let go, but both live to see another day.
The coot swims off looking no worse for wear and the frog gets to go back to the water as well, hopefully, he learns his lesson about biting off more than he can chew.
This is not the first time we have seen animals getting more than they bargained for. Just last year a photographer captured footage of a blue heron that ate an eel. The eel decided he was not going to be eaten and burst out of the heron’s chest like the movie Alien.
Nature is sometimes extremely metal.
