A person’s home is that person’s castle and what goes on in it should be up to the person residing there with as little government interference as possible. Politicians should not dictate how you decide to protect your home or what disposition your legal firearms should be in.
The city of Dublin, California decided to overstep their authority and make it illegal to possess a gun in your private dwelling unless they are kept in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock.
American Military News reported that Dublin’s city council voted unanimously to implement the stringent restrictions. The ordnance goes beyond California state law which requires these sort of requirements only if children live in a household or if a member of a household is prohibited from having guns.
The ordinance will be added to the Dublin Municipal Code, stating, “No person shall keep a firearm within any residence unless the firearm is stored in a locked container or disabled with a trigger lock.”
The city council states that they implement the ordnance for “Safety Reasons.”
Councilmember Shawn Kumagai, stated that the regulation “will state clearly to our community that we embrace a culture of gun safety” and “safe gun storage helps to prevent unintentional and intentional injury and death of minors, helps prevent gun suicide, and deters gun theft.”
“It’s not about taking gun rights away from people at all whatsoever, it’s about educating, it’s about making sure that we do our part, and have an awareness out there,” said Councilmember and mayor-elect Melissa Hernandez.
Councilmember Arun Goel, who voted for the measure, seemed a little unsure about his decision when he stated that: “We can agree on safety but in the reality, how much of these are issues from lawful gun owners vs. unlawful gun owners.”
That is the issue with a vast majority of gun laws. They do little to curtail criminals and put an undue burden on lawful gun owners. Once again more politicians virtue signaling and dumping more restrictions on gun owners in the name of safety.
