Colt stops production of AR-15 for civilian market

Colt is suspending its production of AR-15s to the civilian market. They will focus on filling their contracts with the police and military.

Colt said this is due to a shift in demand and an oversaturated market.

In a written statement, Colt’s CEO, Dennis Veilleux, said “The fact of the matter is that over the last few years, the market for modern sporting rifles has experienced significant excess manufacturing capacity. Given this level of manufacturing capacity, we believe there is adequate supply for modern sporting rifles for the foreseeable future.”

With political dentions surrounding ” assault-style weapons”, this is a risky move by Colt. Gun owners may boycott the gun manufacture if they perceive this as a move that caves to the political left. Although Colt claims it is a shift in demand, It may be hard for gun owners to understand why Colt can not sell AR-15s when demand is steadily going up heading to the 2020 election.
