Coyotes attacking humans remains a rare occurrence, but it does happen. Small children are always going to be the most likely targets and you need to keep an eye on your child, even if you have a fenced in yard and live in a city. This story just drives home that point.
According to Fox 8 News, Madilyn Fowler of Davie County, North Carolina was attacked by coyote. It followed the little girl to her door where she was attacked while trying to get inside. The victim’s mother was able to get the coyote to stop the attack.
“I turned around the corner,” she said. “I saw the coyote at my mom’s car and I had to run back. It was pulling my skirt. It was pulling my pants.”
Madilyn’s mom April saw the attack from near the side of the house. She ran to her daughter and did the only thing she could think of.
“She whacked him on the butt!” Madilyn recalled.
April got Madilyn inside while the coyote got away.
April called her neighbors to warn them. She says one of them shot the coyote with a BB gun, but it escaped into the woods.
She sustained minor injuries but will have undergo treatment for rabies.
I had to get five rabies shots. I have to get four more on Sunday,” she said.
State Wildlife Officials have been made aware of the attack, but were not able to locate the coyote.
“We recommend that residents in the area be cautious with their pets and when outdoors for the next two weeks. An animal infected with rabies normally expires within two weeks, but can spread the disease to other animals and humans that it comes into contact with. Should you see an animal that you believe to be affected, please report it to NC Wildlife or Davie Co. Animal Control,” officials from Davie County Animal Control say.
Things could have been a whole lot worse, Thank God she is alright. On the bright side she has some sweet scars and an awesome story to tell.
