How To Cook Deer: Panko Crusted Deer Nuggets

Everyone loves nuggets, little bites of deliciousness.

Personally, I think they are the perfect appetizer. Most people are familiar with the chicken variety, but these are not your boring fast food nuggets. These are nuggets with a twist. We are taking the nugget game to a whole new level by using venison and kicking the crunch up a notch by adding Panko bread crumbs. The recipe comes via our good friend Amanda Payne. These nuggets are great for snacking or as an appetizer. I would even throw them in a sandwich kind of like a venison po-boy. In the video we serve the nuggets with a really simple sauce just mix equal parts Ranch dressing and your favorite BBQ sauce. Sometime simple is the best. Enjoy!

Panko Deer Nuggets Ingredients:

1 back strap (about 2 lbs.)

2 cups of Panko bread crumbs

2 Tbsp. of ground black pepper

2 Tbsp. of salt

1 1/2 Tbsp. of garlic powder

1 1/2 Tbsp. of onion powder

2 cups of milk

1/2 cup +- of vegetable oil for frying

Panko Deer Nuggets Directions:

First, remove all of the sinew and anything else that isn't beautiful red meat from the deer back strap. Then slice it very thin– about 1/8 of an inch like you would for making jerky. If it is too wide or long, cut the slices in half. Bite-sized nuggets are the best.
