Deer Seeks Sanctuary in Michigan Church on Opening Day of Rifle Season (Video)

Michigan’s rifle season opened life normal but one deer decided a different tactic to avoid hunters by pulling a stunt out of a Victor Hugo novel. This cagy 10-point buck went all Hunchback of Notre Dame and declared “Sactuary” in a local church, but ended up losing his nerve when the local pastor showed up.

According to Fox 2 Detroit, Paster Amanda Eicher discovered the deer when she and her husband came to Grace Church of Sturgis, Michigan Monday morning. They found a broken window and heard a ruckus from inside and initially suspected a break-in. Upon entering the church they spotted the deer in the sanctuary and began to film.

“When I peeked inside, I saw the window was broken and heard loud banging. My husband rushed in and found this 10-point buck. On the opening day of the gun season of all days!” said Eicher.

It appears the deer left the church unharmed and no one was hurt during the incident. The church staff seems to be having a good laugh about the incident even though there was damage to the church. They posted to social media about it and even made some jokes.

When Luke Eicher, Justin Wickey and Amanda Eicher arrived at the church this morning, they found signs of breaking and entering. Little did they know that a 10-point buck had come for prayer in the auditorium on opening day of gun season. There was some damage to the building and our pastors are a little traumatized. But the buck left strengthened in the Lord to go face his battles.

Now that the buck is all prayed up we will see if he survives the orange army. Maybe he will take comfort in the 23rd Psalm “Ye though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for though art with me.”
