Most people know that deer shed their antlers every winter. However, actually observing this happen is rare. Deer spend most of their time out of human site so the chances of people actually seeing it happen is uncommon. Trail cameras have expanded what we can observe about wildlife behavior and are now able to see things that would normally be missed.
Vermont Fish & Wildlife posted a trail cam video sent to them by Ann Sivori that highlights one of these little witnessed events.
The deer appears to have an itch and when he is done taking care of that he violently shakes his head and both antlers go flying. It really looks like he scared himself.
Ann Sivori kindly shared her spectacular and unique trail camera video of an 8-point buck shedding both of its antlers in Northfield, Vermont. Watch closely – it happens fast
