Disney has made a ton of money rebooting some of their classic animated movies and turning them into live-action movies. Movies such as The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Dumbo, Aladdin, and The Lion King have all done really well at the box office. So in continuation of that trend, Disney is now planning a live-action movie of the 1942 classic Bambi.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, The studio has hired Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Chaos Walking) to pen the screenplay for the live-action remake.
The original film debuted in 1942 and was nominated for three Oscars ( best song, best score, and best sound). It features a young deer whose mother is killed by a hunter and is forced to survive on his own.
Anti-hunting groups have used the movie as propaganda to paint hunters as barbaric, even though the animal relationships in the movie are nothing like what they are in the wild. The movie anthropomorphizes animals and does not depict hunters fairly and I expect the live-action movie to do the same.
