Ticks are nasty creatures that spread a nasty diseases and anyone that spends time in the great outdoors needs to be aware cautious. Ticks like to crawl into out of the way places on your body and set up shop. They will feast off of your blood until they get their fill and drop off, so you need to make sure you check every part of your body after you have spent time outside in tick country.
Rachel Mifsud posted a warning Facebook this past week.
Warning to outdoors types who also have piercings: a black-legged tick crawled into the hole for my belly ring and decided it was a good place to have lunch. No clue how long it was there, but I only noticed it because the piercing hole wasn’t large enough for the expanding tick and it started to hurt. At first I thought I had just caught the ring on something and it was sore. Then I noticed the tick butt sticking out of the hole. Dave had to literally dig it out. Excruciatingly painful. Not to mention the potential for tick born illness.
Moral of the story: When you do tick checks, inspect your piercings.
That is pretty gross. You never know where those creatures will end up and I think it is a very good idea to heed her advice and do a through check.
