Money collected from Ohio fishing license is being put to good use this week as wildlife officers are reintroducing hellbenders to Ohio rivers.
Hellbenders are on the endangered species list for Ohio. They are a 1-2 foot salamander that is found in very clean water. Finding places for hellbenders has become more difficult over the last 50 years. The ODNR released 12 this weeks in hopes of re-establishing them to the Ohio rivers.
The funding to establish this native species back to Ohio was paid for with money from fishing license and wildlife legacy stamps. Next time someone complains about buying a fishing license, show them how the money is used.
