Hunters Donate Venison and The Amount is Staggering

Every night in America tens of thousands of people go to bed hungry.  According to Feeding America, 1 in 8 Americans struggles with hunger.  Food insecurity exists in every county in America.  Millions of people are still struggling to get by because of underemployment, stagnant wages and rising costs of living.  To these Americans, food has become a luxury.

Hunters have stepped up to the plate and are doing what they can to fight this serious problem. Every year hunters donate literally tons of deer meat to food banks. This meat goes to feed people in need and make their lives easier.

Donate 3There are two main organizations that hunters donate meat through, Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) and Hunters for the Hungry (H4H). Both of these organizations do great work. Some states have even partnered with one these organizations to help hunter who want to donate meat.

So far since their inception the organizations combined have processed and donated over 45 million servings of venison, that equates to some where around 11,250,000 lbs of meat. So far this hunting season FHFH has already received 11,500 lbs of meat and it is only October.

These two organizations are just two of many. Some are state specific and others like the two mentioned are national. What each of these organizations have in common is they desire to provide delicious, healthy meat to families in need.

If you want to get involved and donate here is what you need to do. Deer and Deer Hunting Magazine spelled out what a hunter needs to do if they want to donate a deer.

Prior to donating, field dress the deer, register it and write the registration confirmation number down. The hunter will need the registration confirmation number handy in order to fill out the hunter donation log sheet that the meat processor maintains.

• Contact one of the participating processors before dropping the deer off to verify the processor has space to accept the deer. As the season progresses, a lot of hunters want to donate deer meat, so you need to keep that in mind.

• Donate the entire deer to receive the processing for free. (Head and/or antlers may be removed for mounting.)

Donate 1• When dropping a deer off at a processor, the hunter must complete the log sheet indicating their desire to donate the deer. The processor does the rest. The donated deer will be processed and the venison will be distributed to charitable organizations to help feed needy families.

Donating meat is a great way to show the world that hunters care. Anti-hunters try and paint us as uncaring blood thirsty killers. This is just more proof that hunter are caring stewards of the land and have built a sustainable resource that can be used to help our fellow man.
