Like most of the eastern US coyotes were non-existent in South Carolina up until about 30 years ago. Today, they proliferate the landscape causing a decline in more native wildlife numbers. So they decided to have the first ever “Coyote Lottery” trying encourage hunters to hunt the animals and keep their populations under control.
Here is how it works. 16 coyotes were tagged and then released across the state. Shoot a tagged coyote and win. The prizes include a lifetime hunting licenses or other nonmonetary prizes.
How many hunters would like to see a similar program in their State?
