Channel 17 WANE out of Fort Wayne, Indiana reported that the Indiana DNR is seeking information about incident that happened on February 16 th . A deer was hit by a vehicle and while it was still alive someone poured an accelerant on it a lit it on fire. The deer was seen by someone passing by and they notified the police.
Officers with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the intersection of State Road 25 and CR 400 North where they found the deer alive and smoldering. The officers then put the deer down.
Based on parts found at the scene, the vehicle that struck the deer is believed to be a blue or black GM model, possibly 1992-2002 Camaro, Trans-Am, or Firebird.
I hope they find whoever did this and they get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I do not know what would drive someone to thinking this an acceptable response to hitting a deer.
Anyone with information should contact the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department Crime Stoppers at 260-223- 7867 or Indiana Conservation Officers “Turn in a Poacher Line” at 1-800- TIP-INDR or online at IN.gov. Reports can be made anonymously.
