Coyotes are becoming more plentiful across the country. As these animals become numerous, so is their encounters with humans. Usually they run away from people, but it seems like they are becoming more aggressive.
According to WESH Channel 2, A man in Fruitland Park, Flordia was faced with an aggressive coyote and was forced to beat off the coyote with a coffee cup.
Ben Pool was walking his dog when he came upon a aggressive coyote. It attacked him and he was forced to defend himself.
“My dog and a coyote were standing face to face, fixing to go at it,” Pool said.
“He came at my legs, first, I smashed him in the side of the head with the cup. He came at me again, I smashed him again and then he jumped up at my face, when he did that I jumped back, smacked him in the side of the head, he screamed and he went down,” Pool said.
“I was going to shoot it out the window because I didn’t want to get out and fight it again and when I did, it jumped up at the window of the truck. I rolled the window down, went three or four times at it, and finally I ran over it. No regret, none. I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” Pool said.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials suggest that people with coyote problems hunt them on private property or have them trapped.
That being said, Pool does not face any legal issues from state wildlife officers for the action he took to kill the coyote.
