A New Hampshire man killed a coyote with his bare hands after it grabbed his son by the coat and dragged the child to the ground. The quick actions of the man saved his son’s life.
Ian O’Reilly told CNN he had “never harmed an animal so it was a weird experience.” After being bit by the coyote twice, he rolled on top of it using his body weight to suffocate the animal. It took O’Reilly 10 minutes to suffocate the animal.
“I was able to get its head into the snow and get my hand around its snout, so it could no longer bite me,” he said. “And then, from there, I was able to suffocate it by using my body weight and scissor-locking it until basically expiring.”
O’Reilly went on to say that he had not processed what had happened yet. He went on to say In the middle of the moment, you’re not really thinking or … recording a whole lot. You’re really just instinct.”
O’Reilly’s son was scared but not injured.
Two hours earlier another attack happened nearby. Pat Lee and her two dogs were attacked while sitting on her porch. All three were bitten and given rabies shots as a precaution.
DNA tests are being used to see whether or not it was the same coyote.
