Gary Heeter of Bend, Oregon, went hunting on Saturday and managed to bag a mature bull elk.
The 69-year-old then attempted to drag the elk carcass up a steep hill with his four-wheeler. While Heeter was driving up the hill, the front end of the ATV flipped. Heeter rolled backward right onto the elk’s antler
First responders were flown to the scene in a Life Flight helicopter, but the remote location made landing near Heeter a challenge.
Eventually, the copter was able to find a suitable landing site. The officer on scene said Heeter was conscious and communicative, but appeared to be going into shock. Heeter was carried half a mile to the helicopter and flown to a Bend hospital.
He is reportedly in stable condition.
