A Colorado elk hunter had a close encounter with a mountain lion while hunting in the San Juan National Forest. He was able to remain calm and draw his gun and film the incident. The cat eventually decided to leave.
Steve Shively posted the incident to Facebook, as you can tell he had quite the experience.
This happened to me Sunday night while scouting for elk and changing memory cards in my trail cameras. After changing the memory cards and rustling around in the leaves, I stood up and turned around slowly scanning the woods behind me. Suddenly, I spotted this motionless mountain lion crouched down behind a rock ready to pounce on me. He/she had silently stalked to within 20 yards of me through the dry crunchy fall leaves on the ground and I didn’t hear him/her approach…it freaked me out especially after watching that video last week of the mountain lion chasing the jogger in Utah!
The crazy video steve is talking about shows a jogger that was chased by a mountain lion in Utah. The jogger did not have a weapon so he resorted to the only thing he could think of a series of expletives and swears. I guess it worked because the jogger was able to getaway.
Of course, some of the commenters on the Daily Mail who also ran this story should their lack of knowledge by wishing death on the guy just because he dared to hunt his own food.
good the hunter become the hunted..
Wish cat had hunted the hunter. Why people like killing animals I do not know… animals that mind their business in the wild. Why? We will pay and are paying and I am glad.
I do not understand people like this, a man decideds to go out into the wild and aquire his meat the most ethical and enviromentally sound way possible and ignorant people give him grief.
Glad he made it out of that situation safe and was not forced to shoot. He definitely has a cool story and a cool video.
