Denver Bronco linebacker Von Miller is under investigation after posting pictures and videos of a fishing trip to social media. Miller went on a guided fishing trip with some friends where they caught a 9 1/2 foot hammer head shark. They took pictures and videos of the fish and then returned it to the water.
According to CBS Sports, the investigation started when PETA found the video and sent it to The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). They claim that the fishermen kept the shark out of the water too long and they believe it died. Hammerhead Sharks are protected and if they are caught they must be released.
The only way Miller would have committed any sort of wildlife violation is if he killed the shark. However, the Broncos linebacker and his friend, who were on a guided fishing tour, said they threw the shark back in the water, which isn’t punishable in Florida.
If the shark was killed and harvested Von Miller and Company could be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor, which is punishable by a maximum of 60 days in jail and a fine of up to $500,
If Miller is in fact guilty of the violation I hope that they prosecute him, but from what I have seen I doubt that will happen. My guess is that PETA is once again making a big deal about nothing. They just want to use the incident to forward their ridiculous agenda and raise money off of it.
