I do not usually concern myself with the actions of the British Royal family, but in this case I will make an exception. A few weeks ago Prince Harry went on a hunting trip with a German Prince nicknamed The Boar Terminator. And that did not really sit well with Tom Sykes a writer for The Daily Beast.
He published a column, called “Harry the Hunting Hypocrite” that is down right laughable. He does his best to try and call out Prince Harry calling him a hypocrite, blood thirsty, and every other anti hunting buzz word in the book. While at the same time admitting that hunting promotes conservation.
Here is what I mean. The title and the very first sentence set the tone.
The question of how long after getting engaged to Meghan Markle it would be before Prince Harry did something insanely stupid has been answered.
And what was so Stupid? A hunting trip of course.
Prince Harry flew by private jet to Germany where he participated in a hunting party with a German prince nicknamed ‘The Boar Terminator,” who once uploaded a video that shows him in a snowy forest killing half a dozen bolting wild boars in rapid succession.
(If you haven’t seen the video its pretty impressive) See Below…
But is quick to point out that it has a place and is needed.
Hunting enthusiasts will be quick to point out that wild boar are an extremely unwelcome pest in central Europe, breeding quickly and destroying vast quantities of crops annually.
That may be true, and indeed many conservationists around the world now argue that trophy hunting and game shooting are, ironic as it may seem, effective ways to promote biodiversity and provide a financial incentive to locals to protect habitats.
He goes on to assert that people with anti-hunting feelings are wrong.
Much to the dismay of those who find killing animals for fun abhorrent, the uncomfortable truth is that these activists are correct. But the subtleties of the argument are lost on the general public.
He states that Harry should stop hunting because the public is “illogical.”
Harry must recognize (even if it is not logical) the perceived hypocrisy between his public stance as conservationist and his private enjoyment of slaughtering birds by the hundred—and that this perception hinders his conservationist cause.
He ends on a high note calling for both Princes to stop hunting because people can’t tell the difference between hunting and poaching.
Harry and William demonstrate their arrogance when they continue to take pleasure in killing animals shooting while simultaneously campaigning against the poaching of protected species such as rhinos and elephants.
If he really wants to be taken seriously as an advocate for the animal kingdom, it is time to put down his guns.
This article is probably most illogical thing I have ever read. What astounds me is that the author knows hunting is conservation, but refuses to acknowledge it. He really should be encouraging the prince to hunt more, so hopefully the general public would stop being so illogical.
