snowmobile race held during ice fishing tournament leaves 2 kids without a dad

Saturday around 7 PM, a man fishing on Devils Lake in Manitou Beach in Michigan was killed in a tragic accident. A man driving a snowmobile slammed into his ice shanty, and he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Michigan State Police Accident Investigation team spent the afternoon taking measurements of the crash scene. Police could not say if alcohol was involved, but did note that ice levels were not a factor.

The incident occurred during an annual Tip-Up fishing competition and winter festival. Both events were being held at the time, with dozens of anglers participating while snowmobiles and motorbikes raced along the lake.

The Victim’s name is Michael, and he leaves behind a wife and two children. A Go Fund Me has been set up for the family, raising nearly $9,000 in one day, and can be found here.

The description of the go fund me can be read below.
