On Friday around 3 pm investigators from the Tennessee Beuro of Investigation (TBI) retrieved the body of 70-year-old David Vowell on the waters of Reelfoot Lake.
The body was discovered not far from where Vowell shot and killed two duck hunters and attempted to kill a third. The third duck hunter, Jeffrey Crabtree made his escape after disarming Vowell and striking him in the face.
Crabtree loaded his dead companions into their boat and made his escape. He told police that he saw Vowell in the water near shore as he left the area. That was the last time anyone saw Vowell alive.
The TBI updated a tweet thread late Saturday evening confirming the retrieval of the body and confirmed that it was indeed Vowell.
BREAKING UPDATE: The body of David Vowell has been recovered in the waters of Reelfoot Lake. He was located around 3 p.m., today, near the area of the incident. His identity has been confirmed and an autopsy will be performed.
Hopefully, this discovery will help bring closure to family’s of Zachery Grooms and Chance Black. Please continue to keep the families of these young men in your prayers.
