Utah House Passes New Bill Concerning Concealed Carry

House Bill 198 passed in a 63-12 land slide in Salt Lake City. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Karianne Lisonbee. Who say it would be good for campus safety.

There was much debate on the senate floor. With some law makers calling it “a step too far” and other saying 18 years old is still young. I guess they have been ignoring the fact that 18 year olds have been deemed responsible enough to carry weapons since September 11 th 2001.

The resistance was eventually quashed Reprehensive Kim Coleman took the floor. She silenced the entire house by revealing that she is a sexual assault survivor.

“The most effective way to stop a completed rape is the use of a gun or a knife,” she said, noting she has a daughter who was the age “when I was a statistic.”

“When avoidance of rape has failed, one must choose between rape and resisting. A woman’s best option is to resist with a gun in her hands. I urge you to support this,” she said.

The bill still needs to pass the state senate and be signed by the governor to become law.
