The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation Youth blog did a story that should be an inspiration to us all. Sometimes it is not easy to do the right thing, but this young hunter did just that.
Megan Choi of Huntington Beach, California was out Elk hunting with her Dad, Marc on a ranch outside of LA. They noticed a 5-month old calf that was injured and struggling to keep up with the herd. Instead of going after a bigger elk they decided that the right thing to do was to shoot the calf.
I know a few hunters that have used their tags on wounded animals. A lot of the time it is not the size of the animal that you are looking for, but it is the right thing to do. A true sportsman never wants to see an animal suffer and it is his duty to put a wounded animal down if he or she gets the chance.
Besides the calf Elk, Megan was able to also harvest a wild pig.
Megan and Marc we salute you for your exceptional sportsmanship and congratulations on the elk and pig. May God Bless you and grant you many more hunts to come.
